Speaker Profile:

Shahul Dawood - Group CEO of Dawood Holdings Sdn Bhd, founder and President of Malaysia Social Media Chambers (MSMC).

These are just two of many hats that Shahul wears. He started MSMC, a non-profit organization with the aim of promoting the use of social media to empower Malaysians and enrich their lives.

Shahul is the prime mover behind the annual World Bloggers and Social Media Summit held in conjunction with Social Media Week. For more information, click on the link to visit the website.

Shahul is often invited to speak at seminars, conferences and global summits. He is generous in sharing his experience and knowledge. He remains steadfast to the motto of “There is never a time we should say it is enough. One has to explore, learn, gain and move on.”

Speaker Profile

Lim Teik Leong - 67, has been teaching English for 45 years till he retired as a lecturer at Universiti Malaya. He was also a scriptwriter and actor for TV Pendidikan in the 1980s. Since 1998, Lim has been busy giving workshops on public speaking, drama, speech training and teaching techniques.

During his university days he developed a fascination for videography. Today with the availability of free Internet video editing tools, Lim enjoys making videos and sharing them with others. He is willing to teach our Seniorsaloud community how to edit and upload videos for educational purposes. “It is really easy and a cost-effective way of teaching,” says Lim.

"Photography is a visual essay without sounds," explains Lim, who took it up in the late 80s. But he prefers videography as it can capture movements and sounds. This is a great opportunity for seniors to learn from another senior how to improve on our videography skills.

USING SOCIAL MEDIA TO GENERATE PASSIVE INCOME

If you have never attended one of these 3-day events before, give it a go. It's FREE, so there's really nothing to lose except your precious time. For retirees with plenty of time on their hands, I would recommend registering for the SMART CONGRESS. You will definitely learn something from it.

One word of caution though. If this event is like those that I have attended before, there is a lot of hard-sell. You will be tempted to purchase some of the products that are on offer at fantastic discounts. Sure, the speakers will generously share some tips on how you can use social media to promote your business or make money through affiliate marketing. They will demonstrate how you too can be rich just by applying these tips. They will impress you with the big bucks that you can make. But remember, internet marketing is not for everyone. There is also the hard work and other factors involved. Some may succeed, many will not. Some may make thousands in a matter of days. Others will struggle for years, and still not see any significant change in their earnings from online marketing.

As one of my friends put it rather cynically, "There is no such thing as PASSIVE income. You have to work for the money." But the speakers at this and other similar seminars will beg to differ. They will try to convince you that you can generate MASSIVE income even when you are sleeping or relaxing on the beach at a holiday resort.

So by all means, attend the SMART CONGRESS. But do so with your eyes wide open.

The event is scheduled for 2-4 March 2012 at Swiss-Garden Hotel, Jalan Pudu, KL. For more details and map of the location, here's the link to the website. You can register online.
